Death and Liberalism

Another funeral trundles in, so it's going to be a busy week next week. Tonight is the Ash Mass and a meeting with a group of C of S ministers who want to make the Church more inclusive!! I think I've been invited to attend because I am seen as a fellow traveller! it's good that we can meet cooperatively on matters of mutual concern and try to send a message out that the Church is not exclusively for conservative minded reactionaries. So that could be interesting!

Wires and death!

The week opens with a flurry of technological problems! The land line has been playing up. The nice man from Virgin points out our parish handyman had gone through the cable running to the extension on which the main unit of the phones was put! A quick shuffle of phones and we're back in business! At which point I can catch up on messages and start planning the funeral that's come in for Monday next. See technology!

TW3 again!

A while since I posted. The retreat went by the by, due to the car making funny noises. Not a good idea to risk a 600 mile round trip if you might not make it back for the funeral you have booked for the Saturday. So I had a week at home avoiding the peeps, thinking, praying, dog walking and steaming gently in the sauna (which I find quite meditative actually). In my absence, the wedding flowers doubled up for a funeral in Church and then covered Sunday's confirmation. Which was good. Then last night was a fund raising concert of chamber music the church. which was well attended. The Beethoven was OK, was nae too struck with the first lullaby, but really rather enjoyed the Grotesque and the Karl Jenkins String Quartet pieces! Plus I got to present flowers to the dolly birds who were playing! Life's not always a struggle for the clergy!

A good weekend.

The last 2 days have been quite fun. The wedding on Saturday went well, with a really nice dinner in South Queensferry. And instead of "You may now kiss the bride" I went you may now kiss.. each other!" Dammit, I'm getting inclusive as I age! I'm glad it went well, as the family have lost an uncle to a house fire before Christmas, great aunt passed away in hospital last week and their 3 year old nephew has been in hospital with chickenpox for a fortnight.

Then today we had the joy of a new Family turning up in church and they are Kenyan! (Where's you're Kenyan NSM when you need him?) Not a bad weekend at all!

The good stuff

Last week's Server's Mass in the Cathedral went well: a good sermon from the Vice Provost, and I didn't trip whilst facing East. Just as well I went to Bo'ness! I have also lost weight and am now no longer officially tubby (yay!). The snow is actually enjoyable and I am wearing wellies for the 1st time this year. Could be much worse!
